Welcome to the Flying Samaritans! We are always looking for volunteers for our medical clinic. Our volunteers include physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurses, nursing assistants, physical therapists, medical assistants, EMT’s/paramedics, as well as medical and nursing students. We try to provide a variety of services at each clinic including: family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/Gyn, as well as other specialities. Each licensed professional works under a temporary permit from the Mexican government, and often the local Mexican physicians will volunteer their time to work with us. It is a great collaborative effort to help people who have less than optimal access to care.

Our clinic consists of a triage area where patients are checked in, information and vital signs obtained, charts are made, which are ultimately given to the patients to keep so that they can share their information with their local providers. We usually staff the triage area with nurses, medics and students. And interpreters are provided to assist them if they do not speak Spanish. This is also true for our medical providers, who will see their patients in one of our three private, or one semi-private, exam rooms. Each exam room does have an exam table and basic equipment. We do encourage our providers to bring their own stethoscope. Our clinic is a full day and each provider usually sees approximately 20-25 patients, depending on the specialty. We also have a mobile clinic on site which gives us additional space or rooms if needed.

We provide basic services and minor “in office” type procedures, all free of charge. And we are able to prescribe and provide medications for our patients at no charge from our own pharmacy. Due to the collaboration with the medical system in Mexico, we are also able to refer patients, if needed, for follow up, or labs, and radiology services at local facilities.
